Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being aware of the present and what is happening now and turning towards that reality with some compassion. In sessions, we put this into practice and examine what arises in clients. From there, we get curious about what possibilities and choices are available to increase empowerment and freedom. My participation in relevant courses, such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Power of Awareness, along with a regular mindfulness practice support my work with clients.

EMDR

I am a certified EMDR therapist through the Maiberger Institute. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that utilizes eye movement and other forms of bilateral stimulation to help people reprocess traumatic events and move towards post-traumatic growth. It can also be used for recurrent, small “t” traumas in life (i.e. workplace anxiety, daily fears, unwanted habits) to decrease present day triggers and enhance performance.

IFS

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy that explores the many parts that make up the whole of who you are. As an ecosystem needs diversity to function and flourish, IFS similarly understands that our many parts each contain unique and valuable qualities to be explored and appreciated. This method is grounded in the view that your core “self” knows how to help you heal and bring harmony and wholeness to your person. I am Level 1 trained and currently participating in IFS supervision.

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is about cultivating the art of contemplative listening. This ancient practice works well with clients who are interested in discerning how Consciousness is present in their lives. Within this sacred space, clients explore how their life intersects with the divine. I trained in this practice at the Grand Rapids Dominican Center.

Postpartum Mood & Anxiety

Not every woman experiences the idyllic bliss of motherhood after giving birth. In fact, 1 in 7 women experience some type of mood or anxiety disorder during pregnancy and their first year postpartum. Some women suffer from pregnancy, labor and breastfeeding complications that can leave them feeling confused, depressed, anxious, detached from themselves and others, and feeling an overall loss of who they are post-baby. The good news is that with appropriate therapy and support this condition is most certainly treatable and can help women learn who they are as mothers.

Yoga & Body Awareness

Many traditional therapies focus primarily on cognitive shifts and changes. While these approaches are effective, they are limited in their ability to access distress held in the body. Yoga is one of the somatic approaches that can facilitate this release. It’s ancient ways of movement can help to access trauma, emotions, and sensations that are stuck, and bring freedom to the body. I received my training through From the Heart and continue my studies by practicing annually with Desiree Rumbough. To learn more, visit the Yoga services page.
